Volunteers sought for Pierce County's historic preservation panel

Pierce County invites qualified individuals to apply for vacancies on the Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission.

The commissioners make recommendations to the County Executive and County Council on historic preservation-related matters, including nominations to historic registers and applications for historic road names. The commission also conducts design reviews, reviews special tax valuation applications on rehabilitation of historic properties, and administers special projects funded by the Historic Document Fund such as grant programs and historic surveys.

The commission is comprised of 11 members, representing each of the seven County Council districts and four at-large positions from specific fields of expertise.

Pierce County residents who are practicing professionals in the fields of archival science, information technology, library science, or history with special knowledge or interest in historic documents are strongly encouraged to apply. Vacancies exist in Council Districts 3 and 7, and in three at-large positions (historian, architect and archivist). The County Executive will nominate commissioners, subject to County Council confirmation.
