The Puyallup River Watershed Council will review chinook salmon recovery efforts in Pierce County and the Puget Sound area when it meets from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 21 in Sumner City Hall, 1104 Maple St. Council members also will learn about the new native plant stewardship program and discuss the council’s 2006 work plan.
Speakers will be Debby Hyde, Pierce County special project coordinator; Margaret Duncan, watershed liaison with the Shared Salmon Strategy for Puget Sound; and Anna Thurston, coordinator of the Pierce County Native Plant Stewardship Program.
Hyde will highlight the county’s salmon recovery actions in the Puyallup River watershed area and discuss the regional salmon recovery plan (Shared Salmon Strategy for Puget Sound). Duncan will explain the process for reviewing and approving the recovery plan at the regional level. Thurston will talk about the Washington Native Plant Society’s training program that will run on Wednesdays from Jan. 25 to April 5.
She also will discuss the native plant salvage program that is designed to recover native plants from sites slated for development and keep them in a holding facility for later use in revegetation projects.
