Pierce County’s Spanaway Park and Frontier Park in Graham were shut down this afternoon because of trees knocked down by high winds. The Lake Spanaway Golf Course closed in mid afternoon because of a power outage.

Pierce County Emergency Management activated its Emergency Operations Center (253-798-7470) to coordinate the county’s windstorm response.

The City of Puyallup reported the closure of four parks — Bradley Lake, Wildwood, Rainier Woods and Clarks Creek Area III — because of igh winds. Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup also closed. Closure of Wildwood Park also means Puyallup’s Haunted Hayride scheduled for tonight won’t be held. Those holding tickets for the event should call Parks and Recreation at 253-841-5457. Windstorm information will be posted at http://www.cityofpuyallup.org .

Pierce County Road Operations crews are responding as needed across the county. “We are keeping staff on duty in all road districts this evening until the winds calm. We are expecting moderate to heavy precipitation Friday morning which could lead to some localized flooding due to drainage inlets becoming blocked by leafs,” said Road Operations Manager Bruce Wagner. “The good news is that weather is expected to calm and
mild through the weekend.”
