“With the upcoming meeting of the World Trade Organization in Seattle, there is much discussion about the pros and cons of the organization and its policies.What is Washington State likely to get out of the WTO Ministerial meeting two weeks from now? What will the impact of WTO decisions be on local businesses?The World Affairs Council in cooperation with the World Trade Center Tacoma, Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development, the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Tacoma are hosting a presentation and panel discussion on the likely impact of the WTO meeting on businesses statewide.A panel of industry and government leaders will present perspectives on the upcoming meeting and explain which issues are important to their business. Industry areas to be focused on include aerospace, software and agriculture.A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion.The State of Washington, Microsoft and The Boeing Company among others, have contributed $250,000 each to support the WTO Seattle Ministerial. Weyerhaeuser Company, Frank Russell Company, the ports of Seattle and Tacoma are also contributors to help make possible the WTO conference in Seattle.The program will be at the Tacoma Landmark Convention Center from noon to 2 p.m., Friday, November 19.
